Margie, realtor, contacted us after the seller left a large volume of unwanted items spread throughout the house.  Today was closing day.  We were able to pack up the items, sweep the garage and get it vacant and ready for the new buyer. 

We remove lots of items from homes and businesses.  An important part of our mission is to donate and recycle whenever possible.  When removing furniture, it is often necessary to partially, or completely, disassemble the item.  This makes the furniture lighter, smaller, and easier to handle.  By taking the extra time to disassemble furniture, we reduce the risk of injury for our team members and the risk for accidentally damaging the property. 

Each job is different, and the team must assess the items to be removed based on size, the exit path, and the intention (donate, recycle, discard).  The team understands the value of taking a few extra minutes to plan for a safe removal.  Our teams travel with the tools they need to disassemble large pieces and the equipment they need to move it safely from point to point (e.g. hand trucks, dollies, sliders).  Of course, after the pieces are removed, the team cleans the area and does a walk through with the customer.

Once the piece has been safely removed from the home or office, it is loaded on our truck.  The teams load donatable items with care and in a way that they can safely and quickly remove them when they arrive at the donation center.  Behind the scenes at most donation centers, you will find several people hard at work.  They are sorting and inspecting items and preparing them to go on display.  However, donation centers are not able to reassemble furniture – after all, they were not there when you took it apart and dropping off a bunch of pieces would present a real challenge for them.  So, we take the additional time to reassemble the pieces on the truck or at the center. 

Taking the extra time to disassemble and reassemble furniture is not the easy thing to do.  It is the right thing to do.  We know the extra care is appreciated by our customers and it ensures that more of our items are donated successfully and find a new home.  That’s just part of being a Junklugger!

A family in North Hills remodeled their house in preperation for an upcoming sale.  We were able to assist them in removing over 3 tons of construction debris and unwanted items. With the combination of a beautiful house and a clean yard, it was in escrow in less than 48 hours.

We received a call from a gentleman who had recently lost a parent.  He was tasked with cleaning out the home.  There were lots of items discarded on the side of the house.  He explained to us that he hired an estate sale company to go through the items in the home.  The company pulled out the things of value and tossed everything else on the side of the home. 

This was such a sad experience.  To think that someone dealing with so much was left with such a mess to clean up.  Unfortunately, because these items had been handled so roughly and left in the rain, we weren't able to donate much.  It was very satisfying for us to get rid of all of this in an afternoon and give him back the space and his peace of mind.  He was very grateful for the quick assist and to have one less thing to worry about.

This Monday we were on our fifth and final job for the day.  The description said "broken futon and a lot of small miscellaneous things". We thought, maybe half a truck.  We arrive at 3pm to find the miscellaneous things ended up being almost 2 full trucks.  Thankfully, we had another truck available to come assist, and collectively we got the job done in 2 hours!  We had a full truck for donations, e-waste recycling, and 170 lbs of cardboard recycing. Teamwork makes the dreamwork! 

We helped a family in Northridge clean out their storage unit. We were able to donate most items, and best of all they are no longer paying for unnecessary storage space! 

Junkluggers helped a family removing a full truck of trash and donations.  They spent the last several years accumulating items and knew that they needed to do something.  Instead, they kept adding to the pile.  When we arrived, even they were surprised by how much stuff they had.  We easily filled an entire truck with mixture of donations and other items.  We were glad to donate several pieces of furniture, bags of clothing, and toys to a local non-profit.  We also removed a number of broken items and "projects" that they realized they simply weren't going to complete.  Before we left, we received a huge thank you and a round of high fives from the family.  Finally being rid of the clutter lifted a burden.  They were so grateful to get back the space and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a decluttered space.

This customer had a yard full of debris and rented a dumpster.  He was unable to remove and load the heavy items.  We provided labor only and filled 2 dumpsters.

California Institute of the Arts called us to keep their cabinets and cubbies that were well designed in 1971 out of the landfills. We hauled away 17 tons of wood and were able to donate, repurpose, and recycle all of this lumber. This was important to them and to us.  Gload we could deliver. 

Losing a loved one is a terrible thing. This bed was bought to care for a family member. Unfortunately, she passed away just days after it was purchased. Junkluggers was hired to remove it and wanted to make something good of this difficult situation. 

The bed was donated, on behalf of the family, to train employees who provide in-home personal and medical care. It makes us happy to know that this bed will play a small part in preparing those employees to provide comfort to people in need. 

We were contacted by a family that had inherited a large property after the loss of a parent.  Several siblings had been preparing the house and property for sale.  Together, they had already removed personal belongings, furniture, and other items that filled a large dumpster.  

They called us, requesting same day service to remove several large appliances, including an antique refrigerator that weighed about three times that of a modern refrigerator.  We were able to be there within a few hours of receiving the call.  They were tired from spending several days doing so much work on their own.  They said they simply didn't have the strength or the tools to remove the remaining appliances.

We picked up an antique radio the size of a cabinet and the weight of a piano. It was fun to see the vacuum tubes and tech that brought new and stories to the ears of the owner. Several families have called us to remove large and heavy items.  Usually, these items have a long history with the family.  They have a very special meaning and are tied to great memories.  However, they don't always fit the space or current needs of the family.  Getting these items out of the house can be a huge challenge.  Even if they can get them out of the house, they can't be transported in most family vehicles.  This is where we can help with removing large and heavy items.

First, we start with a crew of 2-3 people that are experienced in moving furniture.  They always make a plan and examine things like stairs and corners to make sure they have a good exit strategy.  Sometimes this means moving other obstacles along the exit path.  We also bring the necessary tools to disassemble items when possible.  The crews work slowly and carefully to make sure they are able to get items out of the house safely.  They also stay in constant communication to make sure they are clearing doorways and aware of steps or other potential obstacles.

Once the item is safely removed from the house, we have a large dump truck that allows us to load and transport some very large items (we once transported a section of an airplane!).  We use special lifting techniques to safely load the items.  Whenever possible, we try to find new homes for these items, such as local non-profits and donation centers.

We ended the year with a final commercial clean out.  This company had abandoned their office during the pandemic and decided to stay remote.  Their lease expired on the last day of the year and they needed to be out on this day.  They informed us that they would incur significant fees if the move out was not completed on this day or if there were damages resulting from the move-out.

We provided the building with our certificate of insurance (COI) a few weeks prior to completing the job.  Once on site, we worked closely with building security to insure our vehicles were in a safe location that would not disrupt other tenants.  We also made sure the freight elevator was properly protected to avoid damage from moving carts, equipment or furniture.

Once in the space, the team went to work gathering trash, organizing furniture, breaking down cubicles, and sorting items for donation and recycling.  Two of our team members focused on removing items from the 15th floor office and transporting them safely to the trucks.  The rest of the team focused on methodically and carefully taking apart furniture and loading carts for removal.  

Within 3 hours, we safely broken down 6 cubicles, 3 offices, a conference room, and break room.  We maintained communication with the renter throughout the process and sent before / after photos along with the final invoice.  They were thrilled with the work and thankful for having made their deadline and for the careful work.  When checking out with the security officer, he was so impressed with the work that he referred us to another tenant.
